SEO, or Search Engine Optimisation, involves improving the ranking of websites on search engine results. Without it, websites would not appear on search engines. There are many ways the SEO of a website can be improved from Meta tags, to backlinks. Descriptions, keywords, and page titles can all affect the visibility of a website in the results.
The class names used to style a website also have a massive impact on the crawl-ability of a search engine on the pages of the website. Poorly named classes can reduce the ranking of the site.
Many search engines, such as Google, are constantly changing their search algorithms. An update in 2012, to the Google algorithm, called Mobilegeddon, reduced the ranking of websites which were not mobile friendly.
The first step to getting listed on search results is to get indexed by Google. The only way to do this is with page visits, however, it is possible to push the indexing along by submitting the site to Google Webmaster Tools.
I ensure websites are easily found by search engines, by using semantic code which is more search engine friendly.
